Evangelicals are right wing

body In-brief

  • Christianity is a left-right collision, hopefully the best of both and lots more besides!

There are some policies, broadly supported by Christians, that are more endorsed by one candidate than another (eg Abortion where Trump was pro-life and appointed Supreme Court justices who held the same convictions).  That does not mean an uncritical acceptance of a leader's other policies or personality.

In the early church I'm sure some had reservations about Constantine adopting Christianity as the official religion, but they were certainly happy at the edicts prohibiting persecution and requiring the return of confiscated property.

Some progressive Christians who take exception at conservative Christians seem to find it hard to make this distinction and use politics as another reason to disagree.

There is also the sense that those on the left are equally opposed to 'progressive' tactics - described by Andrew Doyle here.  They are shocked that their normal liberal position of informed-protest has been hijacked and misused by progressives.
