Scenarios
- Lucky you Christians can’t do that conversion therapy any-more…
One-liners
- There never has been coercion, there is something wrong if you can't pray with someone if they want it
In-brief
This is an attempt to over-exaggerate a threat of wrong action in order to deny the opportunity of desired change.
Gender-challenged people often seek to reinforce their emotional position by denying that it is a choice – ie that its natural and assigned at birth (but there is no ‘gay’ gene). It's generally thought to be (like other things in our make-up) a combination of nature and nurture.
There are many stories of people who have recovered their physically determined sexual attraction and have discovered God’s way for them.
A good deal of opposite-sex emotional endorsement comes from peer groups, being part of the scene, so it's not just an individualistic process but one of understanding the group pressures both intellectual and emotional. It's good to recognise that the fundamentally stronger call of God will work through, so that needs supporting with friendship and counsel.
BTW people are correctly recognising that much of the gender-related counselling is anything but ideology-free and is much more accurately described as 'conversion therapy' in the sense of being directed as it seems only affirmation is allowed, no balance.
