Scenarios
- Christians should not be involved in politics
One-liners
- Politics is the sharing of resources so how can we not be involved
In-brief
Christians must be involved – stewardship goes all the way back to Gen 1:28 God blessed them and said to them, ‘Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky and over every living creature that moves on the ground.’
A key part of this is God making rules – to Adam, to Noah, and to Moses in the 10 Commandments - which are seen not as punitive constraints but as ways to personal and community flourishing.
However there is the concept of 'Sphere Soverignty' where different groups are responsible to God for different areas. The main ones are the state maintaining good order, the church meeting for worship teaching and prayer, and the family for the bringing up of children. See topic Sphere Sovereignty.
So the church is not a political party, but Christians will have things to say about how things are done, indeed must have, as there is no part of creation where God is not present.
