Knowing the times
We aim to help people find ways to respond to the myriad of culture questions vexing any thoughtful person.
We start with Scenarios you may come across at work, at home or with friends. Some simple responses are suggested and a few words on what might be behind the question - friendly or sometimes not so much!
Often we want to know more, so there are links to 'Digging deeper' articles which cover a number of areas in a bit more depth.
The topics are grouped by Section, and Streams within that - so you can see how other things might link in.
There are also blog entries for more topical stuff.
The site name comes from 1 Chronicles 12:32
And of the children of Issachar, which were men that had understanding of the times, to know what Israel ought to do. This is in the context of people making a bold choice to support David, to make him king, at that particular time that God had chosen. So it's seeking to see what God is doing in our current cultural context and following him.
Also Jesus said “You know how to interpret the appearance of the sky, but you cannot interpret the signs of the times. A wicked and adulterous generation looks for a sign, but none will be given it except the sign of Jonah.” Mt 16:3-4
